Who it suits
The Silennis S050 is not yet a boat anyone can buy, and that is the most useful thing to know about it. On paper it is a 7.50 m day boat for up to ten people in CE category C — nearly twice the length and more than four times the weight of the 3.95 m S010 tender that Silennis builds today, and rated for coastal water rather than sheltered lakes and canals. Anyone who wants that boat this season should look elsewhere. Anyone interested in where a small Spanish yard is heading, and willing to wait for its first vessel of this size, has reason to watch it.
What the numbers mean
The one system Silennis has specified is the motor, and it is the reason the project exists: the ESEA PD100, rated at 75 kW continuous at up to 500 V and weighing 95 kg without its battery. That is a different order of power from the 1 to 3 kW outboards on the S010, and in a 1,650 kg hull it opens possibilities the yard has not yet described. What it cannot tell you is range. Power decides how fast a boat goes; only battery capacity decides how far, and no capacity has been announced.
Caveats
Every figure that decides whether an electric boat suits you is missing here — capacity, range, speed and price — and they will stay missing until the PD100 reaches series production, because the motor is still in development too. It is also being developed by ESEA Propulsion rather than by Silennis, so the timetable is not entirely the yard's to control. Treat the dimensions and the CE category as firm and everything else as intent. When real numbers do arrive, the two worth asking for are usable capacity in kWh and a range at a stated cruising speed.
